Building Community

Posted on Updated on

Every day I run into people who are passionate or at least interested in some aspect of Community Development here in Kansas City. I absolutely love this topic, these issues, this mission. I eat, sleep, breath, teach, talk, walk, and think about CD in KC. Join the community! All are welcome. This is a drama-free environment for people who are ready to take action.

Community Development for me revolves around social enterprise in both the for-profit and non-profit realms with an emphasis on access to and integrating technology in what we do. I am most interested in creating a space for community development that is both virtual and physical. Here are my priorities and plans for action. What are yours?

1. Network – join us for the 3rd Thursday Community Development Coffee. Meet, talk, act. See the 3rd Thursday tab for more info.

2. Learn – Access Point is a 4 week program to build computer skill confidence and portfolios for micro-business entrepreneurs and anyone else who wants to learn the latest and greatest as well as tried and true web apps that will make you productive, active, and successful! Watch for our next series announcement.

3. Locate – We are building a co-work and event center for all things related to social enterprise. You will be able to work, learn, network, and be energized at this location that will house small businesses, nonprofits, classes, events, UMKC students, and others who are engaged in CD or want to soak up our atmosphere and inspiration! Wi-fi, coffee, workstations, computers, meeting space.
